Yadavindra Public School, Patiala celebrated the 71th Annual Sports Day on Saturday, November 9. Around 1600 students participated in the long awaited mega event of the year. The school was also awarded as one of the best leading school of India in the presence of YPS board of Governors, the parents of all the students and the alumni of the Golden and Silver jubilee batches.

The celebrations kicked off with an arrival and welcome of the Chief Guest Mr. Anupinder Singh Grewal, Justice Punjab and Haryana High Court and an old student of YPS. The proceedings of the function started with the chanting of the ‘Mool Mantra’ from ‘Shri Japji Sahib’, in order to seek Almighty’s blessings. The chief guest hoisted the school flag and declared the sports meet open. The students of X-XII saluted the chief guest in a uniformed, steady and rhythmically synchronised impressive march past, coupled with the rousing march music by the school Pipe band.

An oath taking ceremony was administered by the school Head boy. The Director of YPS, Patiala, Maj Gen Sanjiv Varma, VSM(Retd.) addressed all the invitees in his warm welcome speech. The children showcased their talent through various zestful events like…Aerobics, Equestrian, Gymnastics and Yoga. The final rounds of various inter-house Athletic events were also held, finally deciding the winning house of the year.

Following the tradition, the Golden and Silver Jubilee batches of year 1969 and 1994 also got on to the track and relived the old school days while participating in the races. The unmatched energy of the alumni batches whipped up the enthusiasm of everyone around. The Junior school students showcased a mesmerising and energetic aerobics moves on foot tapping dance numbers. The PT boys challenged their fitness levels and displayed perfect amalgamation of fit body and mind.

The esteemed chief guest awarded the winners of various sports events in a prize giving ceremony. It was a proud moment for YPS, when the school was felicitated as one of the ‘Leading Schools of India’ by The Leading Schools Corp. located at Delaware, USA, during the event. The chief guest congratulated everyone for the great achievement and also appreciated the wonderful performances by the students. He relayed a strong message about importance of sports in students’ life and also inspired the young generation to channelize their energy productively to attain higher success levels.

The Sports day not just commemorates the sporting achievements of the year but also imparts a lesson on sportsmanship, hardwork and persistence. The stadium reverberated with the applause and cheer for the achievers and the event concluded with new hopes and resolutions to raise the bar higher by creating new bench marks in coming years.
