YPS FLAG FLIES HIGH AT CONSOLATION PEAK (15,000 ft.)

Yadavindra Public School, Patiala students as part of the Platinum Jubilee activities, completed a 10 days Mountaineering Expedition. A team of 17 students and 2 teachers went for a thrilling Mountaineering Expedition from September 29- October 8. The team successfully conquered The Consolation Peak at 15,000 Ft. located in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalaya which is situated close to Manali, Himachal Pradesh.

During initial days, the team marched towards their base camp, which was located at Chikka (9700FT). There, the climbers were acclimatized at Glacier Base camp about upcoming challenges during evening camps. Before the final summit, the climbers also did a crash course in technical mountaineering & Alpine style climbing techniques. The highly qualified mountaineering instructors also instructed the students about the intricacies of snow & ice-craft.

Initial few days, the students trekked for almost 6 hrs and covered around 2000 ft per day. As they approached the final peak, their endurance was tested by different challenges every day. The final day, the team advanced towards the Consolation Peak by covering 8 hrs of trek in straightforward climb with steep slopes of consolidated snow. It was a great opportunity to practice some of the alpine climbing skills on this climbThey finally conquered the peak.

With this successful summit, the YPS climbers have successfully completed 2 mountaineering expeditions in a year. The teams undergo consistent training sessions which help them scale new and difficult heights every time. A large number of sports and adventure activities are planned this year to celebrate YPS at 75.
